Early film noir owes a great debt to Automated Shot Scout Bots like Charles due to their peculiar knee-high view of the world. Charles recalls fondly the hubbub of life on the set and the quick reflexes needed to avoid being accidentally kicked or sat on by the likes of Fritz Lang. Long retired from Hollywood, Charles continues to pursue his passion: hardware photography. His sublime "C-Clamps and Shop Vac" series is currently on loan to the Museum of Mechanical Art in Manhattan.
